About the artist
Angelina Li is a ceramics and painting based artist. Being a regular diver, Li’s work takes inspiration from the organic forms she sees deep within the ocean. Her ceramics appear soft and supple despite their stone form, dichotomy between the waves’ turmoil and the deep sea’s solitude, dampness and dryness. Water in Li’s artworks is a constant motif, her oeuvre reflect the state of water and its dynamic flow and adaptability.
“Angelina’s Ceramics and paintings seem to be in continuous movement with subtle energy, strength and frequency. These works of art, with such abstract and surrealistic, feminine and fluid shapes, have a contemporary aesthetic appeal and a pure soul, which arises from a genuine appreciation of the creation. They seem to be transformed from the artist’s deep internal process and contemplation, then go on to express a sense of freedom and transcendence in varied art forms. Her art pieces of ceramics sculpture and multidisciplinary paintings are intriguing yet effortlessly allowing viewers to deeply connect with.”

Throughout the last 15 years, Angelina has had a passion to observe marine life during her dives in Bali, Palau, Japan, and the Maldives. She formed curiosity towards the beautiful sea sponges. Angelina has been fascinated by their unique presence underwater in various sizes. The grace and calmness of them swaying gently on ocean floors inspired her. Angelina tries to capture their softness and movement with clay.
